Do I have to return from Africa on the date specified?
No, you will be contacted by email with the option to extend by 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks. You will be sent a form called 'Flight Arrangements' which asks you if you would like to return with the main group or would like to extend your stay. When you complete and return the form you will state your preferred date of return. It isn't possible for us to change these dates once you are in Africa although you can make your own arrangements. Please make sure that we are kept informed of all changes. Ongoing arrangements will be the responsibility of the participant, not Enduro Africa. All flight details must be dealt with through the Enduro Africa office and all calls made directly to the airline will be redirected. Please understand that we are not able to offer an extensive range of return dates. To enable us to get the best available prices for you, we need to remain as a group booking. If you are able to extend your stay, we would recommend that you do so. South Africa is a wonderful country and offers much to those wishing to explore.

How much will it cost?
To participate in the Enduro Africa Motorcycle Challenge you need to be able to raise a minimum of £4,995. We require a registration fee of £500 which is non-refundable within 12 days of a successful application. We require the balance (a minimum of £4,495) of the 2008 sponsorship money to be with Enduro Africa by early August 2008. If you are unable to reach the target by these deadlines, you could forfeit your place on the challenge but we are happy to transfer your balance to next years event. We will be in constant contact throughout the months prior to departure and any problems or questions regarding fundraising can be discussed in good time. Due to the size of the Enduro Africa 2008 Motorcycle Challenge, some of the money you raise will be used to cover costs. Enduro Africa will keep all such costs to a minimum, and are happy to discuss the ratio of costs to sponsorship with any potential participant.

Do I need to be reasonably fit?
Fitness is not essential, but it helps a great deal. You do not need to start marathon training, but it would not hurt to increase your cardio-vascular function. If you are not doing any exercise and have no desire to join a gym then we recommend that you try to walk at a fast pace for at least twenty minutes, three to four times a week. For those of you who are members of a gym - carry on as usual. Stamina is important because the combined effects of long, arduous bike rides on badly maintained roads can leave you tired. Couple this with early starts, little sleep and new food and it becomes clear that your body needs as much help as it can get. A small amount of effort prior to departure can make all the difference.

Is there anything I should not bring?
Enduro Africa recommends that you do not bring jewellery as this is easily lost, also rings can be difficult to remove in the event of knocks or minor accidents. We recommend that you do not bring clothing or footwear that you are worried about ruining! Expensive camera equipment, laptops etc should be fully insured and well protected. If you have any detailed queries, please CONTACT US

Do you tip?
Tipping is discretionary. It is usual to tip porters at a hotel but they should not expect it. Please ask if you are unsure how much to tip. At the end of the challenge we will hold a 'whip-round' to collect money for the drivers, radio operators and mechanics who help us throughout the trip.

What should I expect with regards to the accommodation?
Think basic and then nothing will shock you. The accommodation we stay in during the challenge will vary. You will be expected to share rooms and beds and this will mean that, at times, your space will be limited. The accommodation may not be up to UK standards but it is all safe and clean. On arriving at the evening's accommodation it will be your responsibility to decide who you want to share with, this has never been a problem as people naturally group up with people like themselves.

What clothing should I wear?
Whilst we do not wish to spoil anyone's trip, we must make it clear that protective clothing must be worn at all times when on the motorbike. This means that a helmet, gloves, long protective trousers and a suitable jacket. We also stress that motocross body armour is a must have for any rider that wants to 'have a blast' and it has proved invaluable to several riders. In the evening you can wear whatever you like. We recommend that women wear modest trousers or skirts and, unless within the area of the accommodation or with a large group, wear long sleeved shirts. See our recommended KIT LIST

What will the weather be like?
The temperature will vary according to where we are during the trip. As we climb into the mountains the temperature will gradually drop and will be cooler in the evenings and early mornings. The plains will be hotter, reaching about 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat here is dry and the conditions dusty. The coast will be cooler. On the wild coast there is a risk of rain so please be properly prepared.

Do I need insurance?
Participants MUST be covered by suitable travel insurance. This must include adequate provision for medical and repatriation costs and be valid for the riding of motorcycles up to 250cc. YOU ARE NOT INSURING THE MOTORCYCLE ITSELF - this is covered by Enduro Africa. You simply need regular travel insurance covering medical needs and repatriation if necessary, but ensure that you are covered when riding a motorcycle up to 250cc. A copy of this insurance must be sent to the Enduro Africa office before departure. Please CONTACT US if you need the name of an insurance company.

What happens when we arrive?
When we arrive at the hotel you will be told how many to a room, it is up to participants to decide who they share with (past experience has shown that room allocation does not work). The remainder of the day will be spent resting. That evening it is recommended that you have an early night, as we will depart on the ride the following day. At the start of the first day's ride the party will be split into groups and allocated a team leader. Your team leader will be responsible for ensuring that you are fully briefed each morning, that you know your final destination for that day and have a full route map, that any problems with your bike are fixed and that you have checked in every evening.

What do we do in the evenings?
USE YOUR IMAGINATION! Once you have settled into the accommodation and had something to eat and drink, you will have the chance to catch up with the other 100+ people on the trip, share the trials and tribulations of your day, compare bruises over a beer in front of a huge camp fire. If you play the guitar, now could be the perfect chance to show off your talents!
